CCI’s New and Improved Native Plant Garden

CCI's gardens, planted by the Environmental Club, are allowing native species of plants to flourish.

In spring of 2023, the environment club at Cobourg Collegiate Institute took on a new project with the old planter at the front of the school. The new addition of a bright a native plant garden allows for a better school environment for the students and community, but it also impacts the local ecosystem.

Thanks to the student project leaders Maia Bailey and Maeve Lawrence-Behar, this garden allows for insects and other species native to Canada to thrive in their environment and continue to pollinate other native plant life around them.

The project was so successful that the club is now working on the second planter in front of the school. CCI has been successful in garnering a grant from the World Wildlife Fund of Canada to support the second garden and are aiming for it to be fully planted by the summer of 2024
