A Municipal+Community Partnership for Tree Planting and Watering

Town of Cobourg partners with community to plant native species of trees and shrubs at the west beach spit.

Local students and volunteers, under the direction of Cobourg arborist Eddie Cork, dug in for the planting of 12 native trees and 18 native shrubs at the north end of Cobourg West beach spit in late May 2023. These native plants will need much less watering than non-native plants and will weather the elements well. The trees and shrubs help prevent soil erosion, wind damage, and flooding and provide animal habitat, summer shade and wellness to all in appreciating beauty.

In true community spirit watering the trees has been accomplished through a partnership of community minded residents passionate about the need for trees and shrubs to add to climate resiliency, and Cobourg’s Parks and Recreation department who shared in the planting and watering work as directed by arborist Eddie Cork. Many thanks also to volunteers Donna, Cheryl, Wendy, Theresa, Fred, Dale, Brenda, Terry, Carolyn, Lori, Deb, Jonathan, and arborist students Jarrett, Chloe, and Evan.
