A Gift of Trees

Give a gift that gives back to the land. This local store is partnering with the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority to plant 10,000 trees.

Ten Thousand Villages is celebrating its 15th Anniversary Year by embarking on a fundraiser to try to plant 10,000 trees.  In this year of devastating forest fires and with the continuing threat of climate change, the THV Board felt it was a good time to focus on the environmental aspects of fair trade embodied in Fair Trade Principle #10 from the World Fair Trade Organization: “Climate Action and Protection of the Environment”.

They are selling $10 gift enclosure cards that will lead to the planting of four tree saplings:  two in our local area through the Ganaraska Regional Conservation Authority and two nationally through the non-profit organization Tree Canada.  Their primary mission statement as a non-profit is to help artisans internationally to have a fair wage for their labour, so this fundraiser allows them to do something that is both national and local within Canada.

This fundraiser runs until Earth Day in April 2024. Gift cards can be purchased online through their website or in store. As of December 18, 2023 the funds already raised will plant 2500 trees.
